PROTEIN POLYMER TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT OF
J. THOMAS PARMETER, CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
SAN DIEGO, APRIL 28 -- Protein Polymer Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board:
PPTI.OB), a biotechnology device company that is a pioneer in protein design
and synthesis, today announced that its founder and Chairman of the Board
of Directors, J. Thomas Parmeter, Ph.D., is retiring, effective April 30,
2006. Dr. Parmeter will continue to serve as a consultant to the company.
PPTI’s Chief Executive Officer, William N. Plamondon III, will assume
the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Dr. Parmeter, 66, has been Protein Polymer Technologies’ Chairman of
the Board of Directors since its inception in July 1988, and its President
and Chief Executive Officer until April 2005. From 1982 to November 1987, Dr.
Parmeter was the President, Chief Executive Officer (and, from 1987 to 1988,
Chairman of the Board) of Syntro Corporation, a San Diego-based biotechnology
company focused on recombinant vaccine development. Prior to joining Syntro,
Dr. Parmeter was a founder and Executive Vice President of Professional Health
Technologies, Inc. He was formerly an Associate Professor at Michigan State
University's College of Human Medicine, and Director of the College's Office
of Education and Interdepartmental Programs. Dr. Parmeter earned an M.Sc. in
management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management,
where he was an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow. He also holds a Ph.D. in Educational
Psychology from Michigan State University. He and his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Parmeter,
reside in La Jolla, California.
